Active membership is acknowledgement of your personal accomplishment as a camera operator by your peers. The membership committee reviews applications and new members are admitted by majority vote of the Board of Governors.

ACTIVE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for active membership should:

  1. Be able to demonstrate significant accomplishment as a camera operator with noteworthy credits in your area of concentration.
  2. Be able to provide credits demonstrating your experience as a camera operator for a period of five years or more.

    In addition, being a camera operator must be a significant part of your primary professional effort. Directors of photography and director/cameramen must be operating their own camera on the majority of everything they shoot.

    Note: Using the SOC initials after your name is limited to camera operating screen credits only. When credited as a the director or director of photography, the SOC initials MAY NOT be used. For Guild members, the date of re-rating as a camera operator is generaly considered the beginning of the five year period.

    Camera operators who do not feel they meet the criteria for active membership are encouraged to apply as associate members. Associate members may request review for active membership status at any time.

Dues are pro-rated as of September 1 of each year. All fees are subject to change by the Board of Governors. Payment and mailing instructions provided on application. ALL CHECKS MUST BE DRAWN ON A US BANK IN US FUNDS.
